CTE Business Education Teacher Named Teacher of the Year

In a surprise announcement at a Glendale Union High School District budget meeting, Career and Technical Education’s (CTE) Business Education teacher, Buck Nelson, from Washington High School, was named Arizona’s 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year. Each school year, Teachers’ Insurance Planä recognizes one teacher in each state for the contribution they make toward the betterment of their school, students or educational community. This year Buck Nelson was awarded that honor and received a $1,000 cash prize plus a $500 grant to use for school equipment. Buck teaches CTE Business and Marketing classes and advises the affiliated CTE DECA club on campus. In an interview with KTVK channel 3, He said, “Some of those kids tell me on a daily basis that the only reason they come to school is because of that club. So, I feel that if I don’t get involved in all these different things…a student might miss out; and it’s just so rewarding for me, as well, when you see the kid make the connection.” He also says he’s a bit humbled by the recognition. “So, for me to be singled out, …it was a great honor.”
