Washington DECA Supports Alzheimer's Association November 2011- Washington High School's DECA program continued its commitment to helping the Alzheimer’s Association find a cure. Recently, club sponsors Buck Nelson and Maryellen Coburn educated their students about the disease, and the students decided to act.
Over 135 DECA students created paper elephants, the Alzheimer’s Association’s mascot, to sell for $1 on campus and throughout the community. In addition the DECA program raised money by doing a bowl-a-thon. The two week effort culminated when members of the DECA program participated in the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” in Downtown Phoenix. The WHS DECA program has raised over $5000 over the past 5 years working with the Alzheimer’s Association, which is used for research and family support.
DECA is a co-curricular club that prepares emerging entrepreneurs in leadership development, community service learning, and school service focused on marketing, finance, and hospitality education.
